The Avatar would eventually descend into this hellish dungeon through a secluded and ice-covered hole to face a former comrade-in-arms, Geoffrey , who, like numerous other companions, had fallen under the sway of the columns.
Eventually, the hero would best Talornia in combat, that her head might be brought before the knights of Valoria. Another, lesser known rumor tells of the one creature that can coexist with the dragons in Destard.
It is not a hydra or a drake, but a unicorn who wanders the cavern tunnels freely! Unsurprisingly, no one has been able to stay long enough within the dungeon to confirm this legend The cavernous entrance to Destard, as depicted in early Ultima IX concept art. May 5, July 17, Pages 34— Due west of the Fens of the Dead , in the mountainous region in the southwest part of Britannia, lies the entrance to the dungeon Destard.
The brave traveller will find wealth aplenty on the 4th level of this villainous series of caverns, but guardians of unsurpassed ferocity are also to be found here. Seek the altar that holds the red stone on the 7th level, and hie thee to the Altar Room of Courage that may be found herein.
Far to the west of the Fens of the Dead, along the untamed coast of southwest Britannia , the cavern called Destard is a dank haven for savage tribes of orcs , trolls , and the like. I prepared a map with the assistance of Gertan , one of the few people foolish enough to brave the depths of Destard.
Everybody knows this is the lair of dragons. Gertan has a thing about dragons, though. Says there are drakes down here too, to eat up anything too small for the dragons to bother with. Legend has it there's an egg chamber on the fourth level, but I don't think anyone's ever gotten that far and lived to tell about it.
In Trammel, level two is occupied by much more dangerous monsters. Though you will still find wyverns, you'll also run into shadow wyrms ouch , evil mage lords , daemons. All of the aforementioned monsters spawn in the South end of this level, save for wyverns, which spawn just about anywhere. As you enter from the previous level, you will see the entrance to Level 3.
So it is fairly easy to go between the three in an instant. There are no other inhabitants, the only other item of interest is the shrine at the far west corner, over a wooden bridge. In Trammel the shrine is jealously guarded by water elementals, as is the larger of the other pools in this region, at the Eastern side of the area. Elsewhere in the area are wyverns and drakes.
Once more, return to the ledge above the cavern floor and continue. The next, final, opening to the right is a long corridor, deserted in Felucca but populated by giant serpents in Trammel.
The passage terminates at the head of the slope to level two. Two drakes and a few wyvern guard the Trammel entry, but Felucca is freely accessible. Descending the slope from level one the first thing you notice to the east is a further slope leading down to level three. The level appears to be divided into east and west areas by great pillars of rock. To the west of these pillars drakes and wyvern are found here in Trammel while to the east a pentagram is guarded on both facets by daemons and evil mages.
At the far end of the level a pair of shadow wyrms hold sway over a group of chests. The Felucca shadow wyrms, possibly freed by the absence of drakes and wyverns, range further from the chests, roaming the entire level at will. Beware of these, they cast not only magery spells, but those of necromancy too.
A lethal combination for the unwary. The smallest area, Level three nevertheless has something of interest. In Felucca a pair of wyverns, an ancient wrym and a group of fire elementals stand guard over a pair of teleporter sparkles. The western sparkle, nearest to the slope from level two, leads to level four of Dungeon Deceit, the eastern sparkle will take you to Terathan Keep.
