Can you roast peeps

What a surprise I received Saturday when I dropped by my Mother-in-laws house. She had invited a few of her great-grand children over for an Easter celebration and they were having a grand old time roasting PEEPS marshmallow candies over an open fire. And why would Grandma, of all people, encourage such a dastardly thing? And as it cools, the liquid sugar turns into a new, solid crystal structure, which gets harder the hotter the sugar gets and the more it's allowed to sit still as it cools.

This is why hard candies like Jolly Ranchers and taffies can be still mostly sugar but have such different textures. Check out this awesome picture , even though I'm pretty sure they're using a lightsaber, not a torch available on this planet. Ang Taylor made this Mario jumping a Piranha Plant out of marshmallow chicks and bunnies. To be honest, there are many ways Peeps can be used as an art medium, as we've seen many times before like in this collection of Peeps dioramas.

Peeps chicks and bunnies are ready-made decorations that will easily stick to cake frosting and make for desserts that are both seasonal and colorful. See some more cake decorating tips here. There's no danger of misshapen cake pops or drippy lollipops when you start with a Peep on a stick. Michelle from Sugar Swings made these candy pops out of marshmallow Peeps, and using Peeps left her plenty of time to decorate them as Star Wars characters.

Michelle has plenty of other Peeps pops ideas you can try out, too. I had never heard of this before, and given my love of Peeps, all I could think of was what a great idea! Since the Easter season was already long past when she told me this, I purchased some Peeps from the local Peeps store on National Harbor and hid them away in my closet. When we got ready for our first fire-pit fire of the summer, I had a nice stash to pull out for roasting Peeps. Of course, we also just enjoyed the roasted Peeps plain, sans chocolate, and graham crackers.

One, break all the graham crackers in half ahead of time. Two, break up the chocolate ahead of time too.

This keeps fingers from getting burned. It seemed to me that the Peeps got hotter to the touch maybe because of the sugar? Do you have tons of leftover candy? Make Easter Candy Bark with the recipe in this post.
