But Orochimaru was actually planning to take over Sasuke's body, and as a result the Sharingan in his possession would skyrocket him towards his prime objective of learning all of the jutsu in the world. Because of that, he would help Sasuke in whatever he needed, with the knowledge he had to become his new vessel.
However, following his revival by Sasuke, Orochimaru lost interest in his previous goals and recognized how copying someone else was a mistake after his former assistant Kabuto had tried to copy him completely. He chose to observe Sasuke's participation in the Fourth Shinobi War, and as a result of his new change, Orochimaru made sure to heal Tsunade and the other Kage, and later assisted in healing Sasuke, after he was badly injured by Madara Uchiha.
While he does not seem to feel regret for many of his actions still, he seems to feel a certain amount of remorse for what he did when it came to those who he cared for, showing sadness for the death of his childhood friend Jiraiya and also looking solemn as Naruto showed his memories of Jiraiya, which was what inspired him to join the Shinobi Alliance.
Orochimaru also finally gained some respect for Naruto as he learned just how far he had come under Jiraiya and saw his indomitable will. He appeared to genuinely care for Sasuke, showing that with his previous single-minded belief of Sasuke as being merely his vessel eradicated, he had came to subconsciously be fond of his apprentice, as he looked solemn when Sasuke was near-death and appeared to be nearly proud of Sasuke's growth.
Following the war, he is on amicable terms with Konoha and also sent his son Mitsuki there, despite the fact that they still keep him under observation due to his past misdeeds.
As his parent, Orochimaru appears to do a rather good job, actively doing his best to support his son's growth and openly expressing gratitude towards Naruto for accepting Mitsuki into the Hidden Leaf Village.
He watches over Mitsuki's growth, and always enjoys seeing whenever his son begins to mature or further develop as an individual, and in turn, Mitsuki has developed a strong bond with him, proud to call himself Orochimaru's son. Despite this, he still occasionally uses manipulation and deception to put Mitsuki in situations where important decisions must be made.
Being one of the Sannin, as well as a former member of Akatsuki, Orochimaru is an extraordinarily powerful and skilled ninja. Considered to hold easily Kage level abilities, Orochimaru is considered to have enough prowess to destroy an entire city of Ninja and Hiruzen admits that with his prowess deteriorated from old age, even he may not be able to stop him. Although Hiruzen ultimately managed to triumph, sealing away Orochimaru's ability to perform Ninjutsu and otherwise overpowering him in combat and even taking on him and the revived Hokages, it was only because of Hiruzen performing a suicidal jutsu and the forces of Konoha were left crippled by Orochimaru.
Even while heavily weakened, he remained considerably powerful, able to take on Jiraiya while he too was handicapped and also battle Tsunade, although with Jiraiya he only bested him via surprise and Tsunade ultimately bested him.
While mostly restored, he could go up against Naruto in his Fourth-Tail Form. Sasuke, despite his improved prowess, admits that had Orochimaru been at full power, he would have posed a difficult challenge and maybe even won when they fought.
Even in the current era, Orochimaru's power is still well-known and feared and he proved to remain an incredibly powerful shinobi, as shown by how he could easily fight and pressure Victor, an Inner of Kara, regarded as a complete monster in terms of power and abilities. Although he rarely uses Taijutsu, he has proven to be highly capable in hand-to-hand combat, able to easily take on and eventually pummel Sasuke despite his Sharingan.
He overall prefers to wield his Sword of Kusanagi, with which he was able to battle Hiruzen wielding his Adamantine Staff but was inevitably beaten.
From his relentless pursuit of all techniques in the world, Orochimaru gained unprecedented knowledge and proficiency in Ninjutsu, stated to have. Most notably, he has been seen using the Five Elements Seal, to seal off another's access to chakra and thus, rendering them useless. Using this technique, Orochimaru was not only land a seal on an enraged Naruto, but also completely subdue the Nine-Tails' chakra.
In the anime, he was shown capable of using its counterpart, the Five Elements Unseal. Orochimaru's trademark trait is his affinity with snakes that, in addition to impacting the appearance and composition of his true form, and granting him the ability to extend his limbs to abnormal lengths and to take on snake-like traits in battle, caused him to learn a number of snake-related abilities, including learning Sage Mode.
His snake-related techniques have been referred to as Power of the White Snake. One such ability is being able to summon giant snakes to fight alongside him in battle, made possible by the summoning contract tattooed on his arm.
This allows him to summon snakes within his vicinity, as opposed to having to place his hand on a surface. If need be, Orochimaru can morph into a giant snake, despite being slightly smaller in size to his larger summonings. His signature summon was Manda, a colossal snake which was described as the largest in the world, with immense fighting capabilities.
With Hidden Shadow Snake Hands, Orochimaru can instantly call forth snakes from his sleeves and mouth to attack his opponents in large numbers with venomous bites. A stronger variation of this technique was the Many Hidden Shadow Snake Hands, in which the summoned snakes grow noticeably in both numbers and size. And more disturbing, if Mitsuki ever perishes or betrays him, he has more.
Not exactly a model citizen now. Especially compared to all the chaos he used to cause during Naruto. He destroyed the village and hurt so many of its people in those days, and that's without mentioning corrupting Sasuke Uchiha and turning him into his own personal, mutated weapon. In Boruto , Orochimaru is barely even seen anywhere near Konoha, only coming to the vilalge to support his child.
Otherwise, he keeps to himself. Does that mean his intentions are good? Not really. But it does mean he's not the same active, constant threat to Konoha's very existence, which is a great improvement. Even though Mitsuki and Orochimaru used to be very close to one another, the snake Sannin's secrets and lies slowly started to drive a wedge between them.
While Mitsuki hasn't completely rejected his parent like Log did, he doesn't look at him the same and certainly doesn't trust him. After all, it's quite a shock to learn how many other clones he has hidden, or the fact he lied about Mitsuki's older brother's existence. And that's without mentioning the questionable reasons Orochimaru has for making Mitsuki in the first place.
Back in Naruto , Orochimaru was infamous for taking heads and spilling buckets of blood. He ended the lives of so many honorable ninja, even sacrificing some of his own people for his purposes. Anywhere Orochimaru was, there was always a threat of violence. No one was safe in his presence, not even his dearest acolytes.
By Boruto , Orochimaru has mellowed a bit in his old age. While he still has some sketchy ploys and schemes going on, and even more ethically questionable experiments, he isn't cutting throats as casually as before.
The violence in his life has definitely decreased. The Sharingan, the perfect Ninja tool. Learning and Copying Jutsus instantly, understanding how Jutsus work. Predicting ability. Not to mention the Mangekyou Sharingan abilities. This was just a side goal, Orochimaru reached his goal of Soul Transfering, so he believed he was perhaps one of the strongest Ninja, of not the strongest there was.
His need for knowledge turned him evil. Perhaps he had good intentions prior. Power is needed. Everyone wants it in this story really. The need to be strong. Some are poluted by it. I believe it makes Orochimaru the most interesting character, because he's somewhat of the original badass individual ninja, who said Fuck the Rules, and lets go for ultimate knowledge and power.

I think Orochimaru crossed the line of no return the moment he completed Fushi Tensei and utilized it on that unknown woman; it was mentioned after the conclusion of the Sannin fight that the Oro that Jiraiya and Tsunade had contended with didn't feel like the real deal.

He is, in fact, totally incapable of forming bond's with anyone. So with regards to his relationship with Jiraiya, or even his parents, what he actually felt about them is pretty much impossible for us to understand.
Don't forget: Sandaime said that he had "eyes full of malice and ambition" even as a child, so his experiences as a ninja were not the decisive factor in his outlook. Adell said:. Though I do remember The Third Hokage saying that Orochimaru was always truly evil, so this must be true. Or at least accurate.
If he was always truly evil Why would Sandaime even consider him for the Hokage position? There must of been good in him. The fact that he fought for his life and death as a Konoha Shinobi proves he took orders and did them for the good of Konoha. He didn't always kill and experiment on people. Ackwell said:. There's no telling just how often he'd used it on his poor prisoners. A running theme with Orochimaru is how many of his despicable acts involve children, something that should make him irredeemable, despite the route Boruto has taken with the character. One of the first things viewers are privy to is his willful sacrifice of three sound genin who are only sent to the Chunin Exams to test Sasuke's strength. They, of course, think they are there to try to kill the boy, blissfully unaware of how unimportant they are.
By the end, all three kids are dead, two of which by Orochimaru's own hands. It doesn't hit as hard as the rest as Kimimaro was perfectly okay with allowing himself to be a vessel to Orochimaru, seeing it as his only purpose in life.
He'd do anything to serve his master, his deteriorating health causing him to berate himself. Sadly, he was so willing to throw his life away for a man who didn't care one iota for him. Orochimaru was only interested in the unique abilities Kimimaro had and nothing more than that, showing how selfish he was. The Land of the Sea was used as the staging ground for one of Orochimaru's hideouts. He hoped to create a ninja capable of fighting underwater here, something that Amachi, one of Orochimaru's underlings, managed to pull off with Kaima form.
The form changed the user's skin, forcing them to look more like fish than people. Despite this, Orochimaru grew bored with the project and abandoned it.
