Is there an reason for this? They actual nut is sized the same, I am more curious than anything. Has anyone heard of this or had a similar experience? These trees are beautiful in the right spot - however, we've found them springing up everywhere in our garden, and throughout the neighbourhood!
Is it from squirrels hiding the nuts of this tree? I'm cutting them down constantly, but we're letting one grow further out in the yard not sure it's such a good idea. I had 3 black walnuts in the yard of my 18th Century home and got tired of picking up the nut shells and recycling them. Nothing grew under the trees. In my new location my neighbors have some very old walnut trees and the squirrels come into my yard and bury the nuts all fall and winter.
In Spring and Summer I am finding them growing in the grass and gardens and under the hedges. This year I had to dig up 2 dozen or more.
